Is there someone who doesn’t want to travel more? Who doesn’t plan the next trip as soon as he/she got home from the last one? I will take the audacity and answer with a big no. But not everyone has an unlimited budget at his disposal so we need to find new ways, affordable ways to travel more. Here are my top 10 ideas.
There are a lot of opportunities to travel as an intern. You can find an internship during summer break or spring break in a company or in a hotel. You will need an internship agreement between your school and the company/hotel but I don’t think that this will be a problem. You get to visit a new country, make new friends, save some money and gain experience which will help you a lot in the future.
9. Teach English abroad
Either you are a native speaker or your level of English is very good you can teach English abroad. Just choose your destination and go for it. It could be in Europe, but what about Africa, India or China? These are just a few sites: Teach Away , Go Over Seas or read this article to get started here.
8. Work as a receptionist/hostess/animator/waiter/waitress/bartender abroad
Choose some sunny destinations for the summer such as Malta, Spain, Greece or Cyprus. Most of the hotels will provide free accommodation and meals while on duty: Hotel Career, Indeed or Learn4Good are just some of the websites that have hundred of available positions posted.
You can have a look and apply. Keep in mind that you can only go once on a study programme and once on a work programme with Erasmus.
You will get free accommodation and most of the hosts will also provide meals in return for some work. Normally you will have to work 4 to 5 hours 5 or 6 days per week, mostly in the mornings. The rest of the time you can relax, enjoy the area or visit the surroundings. You can choose from hostels work to farm work, you can go help in a school, participate in some eco projects, help with animals and so on. Have a look. I think all of us should do this at least once.
5. House Sit
Choose the country and find a home to sit while the owners are away. Free accommodation and a kitchen for you to cook? Basically you only pay the travel expenses and buy your own food.
4. Au Pair
Live with a family in the country of your dreams and help them with childcare. Learn the language, experience the culture and have the adventure of a lifetime.
3. Volunteer abroad
2. Be a travel guide abroad
Search for a job on Indeed or Google or just find travel tour operators and go the Work With Us section on their websites.
Airbnb can be accessed via either its websites or mobile apps for iOS, Apple Watch, and Android. Registration and account creation is free. Choose from the rooms available, read the reviews which will help you make up your mind and pay less than at a hotel.
Couchsurfing is a service that connects members to a global community of travelers. Use Couchsurfing to find a place to stay and to make new friends. I don’t know how safe it is in case you are a female and you travel alone though.
Any other ideas?
